Designer Profile: House of Haricot

The artist behind House of Haricot is Christel Boon, a surface designer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Since childhood, she enjoyed herself daily with drawing, painting, and crafting, eventually earning a degree in Graphic Design and thereafter Interaction Design.

Over the years, she worked as a creative designer and (art) director, collaborating with high-end national and international brands. She brings this rich experience to her work as a freelance surface designer.

Christel is inspired by nostalgic memories, everyday moments, nature, travel (especially Japan), and her photography and vintage book collection.

A particular influence is Japanese design, which she admires for its harmony and timeless elegance—a quality she strives to bring into her art. She is known to bring a joyful quality to her designs with a grandmillennial twist: bringing classic patterns a contemporary sense expressed in fresh colour palettes. Through her work, she aims to evoke a sense of warmth, connection, and style that stands the test of time.
