This has been one heck of a month: holding on to secrets is not our strong suit! But finally, we can announce our latest collaboration. Last year, our Director of Operations, Gina Pantastico, visited Australia, and while she was there, she dropped in on these talented ladies in their amazing studio. We are so pleased to be bringing Ink + Spindle to the quilting world at large. You’re all in for a real treat! Their’s is a business that has been a source of inspiration and admiration for the Cloud9 principals since day one and we’re so happy to be working together. Their debut collection with us will be revealed at Quilt Market this May.

The Ink + Spindle studio – hand screen printed textiles on organic base cloths.
Ink & Spindle is a small, boutique textile studio located in the old Younghusband Wool Store in Kensington, Melbourne. Owned and run by designers Caitlin & Lara they design and hand screen print organic meterage on their 10m printing table. Their fabrics are most often found in the home in the form of cushions, lamps, upholstery and window furnishings.
Caitlin and Lara draw inspiration from Australia’s native flora & fauna, and also the energy of the urban environment in Melbourne. They design for longevity – rather than following current design or fashion trends too closely they aim to develop beautiful textiles that will fit in your life for many years to come.
They love working within the limitations of screen printing and hand printing, with all of their designs requiring only one or two colour separations. They use overprinting, screen flips and displacements to create beautiful results from only a single screen.
Their textiles are mainly sold as metreage, kits and a small range of homewares. When it comes to finished product they love to collaborate with fellow local creatives! Their textiles can be found around Melbourne & Australia made in to bags, lampshades, homewares and much, much more thanks to the amazing skills of a range of talented people.

Lara Cameron
Prior to Ink & Spindle, Lara established her design career working as a web and graphic designer under her own name. Frustrated by the limitations of digital mediums she began experimenting with surface design & textiles, receiving lots of positive feedback and support via her personal blog. Co-founding Ink & Spindle was a natural progression that allowed Lara to engage with her creative output in a more tactile manner, whist enjoying the technical challenges of the medium.
