  1. This is such a gorgeous pattern! I can’t wait to try it out. And I’m so excited that you’re carrying Elizabeth’s designs. She does such beautiful work!

    • Are you clicking the little “disk” icon – the one most to the left in the lower tool bar that appears on the bottom of the screen when you view the PDF?

        • When you click on the download here, the fabrics are shown – find the box that shows the Ribbon Box Quilt. there, underneath the quilt picture you have the option to view pdf. Click on that and there is your pattern,

          • After you get to the fabric page, click on projects on the left. Scroll the patterns until you find the one you want.

  2. I’m having trouble downloading this beautiful pattern for the Ribbonbox Quilt. When I click on ‘download’ it sends me to a page with samples of all the fabrics.
    What do I do?

  3. I have been looking for a quilt pattern to showcase a special fabric collection I bought for my sister’s quilt. This is it! Thank you, thank you!

  4. I just read the pattern and am confused. When you say “cut the pieces horizontally across fabric”, does that mean cutting strips from selvege to selvege?

    • Yes, cut them so the design runs horizontally across the width (selvedge to selvedge) as opposed to cutting along the length of the fabric.

  5. The 1 yd. white background fabric is not enough. @#$%!!! I suggest you purchase at least 1 1/4 yd. All other fabric requirements for the top seem to be correct although I am not sure 4 yds for the backing fabric is going to be enough. Let’s hope so!

    • So sorry you’re having trouble! This is the first time we’ve heard of this issue in the hundreds of downloads we’ve had. These are free projects and we do our best to give thorough details based on our experience with the project. We’ll arrange to add more yardage to this asap.

  6. I am a quilt store owner and want to make it for a state shop hop. I know it says for personal use. Can
I make copies for my customers or can pay you for the pattern

    • Yes, this is fine! Please note we JUST updated the file for an error. You’ll want to use this version.

      • I printed out the directions for this quilt a couple of months ago and am finally going to start making it. I’m not sure if I have the directions with the error corrected or not! Could you please tell me what the error is? Thank you!

          • @Cloud9 Team
I think the best way to solve this is to include a “published” or “updated” date or version number on the cover page each time you release or re-release a pattern. Then someone can look at the release date of theirs and say “oh, my copy is dated Nov 2014 but the one on the site is dated Jan 2015”

  7. I would like to make this Ribbon Box Quilt in twin size, do you have the pattern for it in this size? I love this quilt and already have the material to make it. Will start cutting it out tomorrow.
    Thank you.

  8. I would love to make this quilt, but how do I get the .pdf? When I click the “Free Download” it opens the smae window as the “Grey Abbey’s” link. I see no .pdf file. 🙁

    • It is mainly straight lines and if you are good at following directions and have some sewing skills in your pocket, then it would probably be something a beginner could make.

  13. I’m fairly new to quilting so this seemed challenging to me. I finished the piecing and it’s lovely. Thank you very much for the pattern. Easy to follow directions and it came together beautifully.

  15. I absolutely love this quilt. I want to make a baby quilt version, so I’m trying to eliminate some of the ribbons. But I’m having trouble figuring out how to make the over/under aspect work out. Is there a pattern for a smaller size?

  16. A couple of friends and I are making this pattern as a gift for a fellow quilter, but in a much lively palette.

I eyed the pattern and the cutting directions for a few minutes and decided it would be ever so much easier to strip piece the alternating narrow horizontal strips rather than stringing together skinny pieces since those rows are all the same. SO glad we did. Perfectly straight, impossible to mix up the planned order, all directional prints right, and very fast.

    • That’s interesting, I know it’s many years ago that you made this quilt but can you explain how you did it?

  17. This is a fresh new design with beautiful current and stylish new fabrics it looks fabulou. The only thing I would change is the backing I really think it needs some texture on the back. Please more patterns please!

  18. Like Gail, I really want to make this quilt in a baby quilt size. I don’t see any way to reduce it by eliminating ribbons, but what if I reduce the size of each cut piece by 1″? I’m no math wizard, but based on the proportions I think it would still fit together as shown. That way I could use 12 fat quarters instead of buying 1/3 yard cuts. Any thoughts on why this wouldn’t work? I may try it with some scraps before buying anything new!

    • I did make the quilt, and it turned out wonderfully! I wanted to post a picture of it, but it won’t let me do that here. I did reduce the size of it, and I did have problems with the math, but somehow it worked out fine! I made it with fat quarters in gray, white and pink. It was lots of fun and quick to make. I encourage anyone who’s thinking of it to go for it!

  22. I am not finding anything: PDF, disk, etc. to help with the download. or at least opening up the pattern. I think they just want us to purchase fabric. No thanks.

  24. I really like the quilts you show, however, it is useless because I cannot get the pattern. I click on get the directions, and just get pictures, no measurements of directions. I will quit this site if I cannot get the patterns.

  25. when you updated the pattern was the only change the amount of background fabric

I just downloaded today want to make sure I have the most current pattern and have enough fabric

    love the pattern
also loved the comment that some one made in just three colors I am trying to figure out how much of each fabric I would need to do that.

  26. I have made this baby quilt and I love it. But I need the same fabrics and can’t find one called folky daisy mustard. . I have 3 customers that want this exact quilt fabric .

  27. Thank you for the FREE pattern. It is much appreciated. Honestly, I am appalled at some of the “requests” for the link to the pdf. But what is more appalling is I don’t see any follow up “thank you” once they were able to access it. Again, thank you for this very cute FREE pattern. pam

  28. Thank you for this lovely pattern. I wondered if there is a way for me to add and make it a bit bigger in each direction. As a beginner, not sure how I would proceed to do that. Either way. Thank you again.

  29. I think this pattern is really nice. Most are having trouble downloading the pattern but i cannot find where to get the fabric. Oh well, i am sure it’s at my local quilt shop so i will just check there 🙂

  30. I was excited to download the pattern for this quilt, bought and cut fabric according to the directions. However, once I started to sew the pieces together, I discovered that the long pieces on the horizontal rows i.e. pieces measuring 5 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches are not long enough. The pieces on the rows above and below measure 3 inches by 5 1/2 inches by 3 inches – totaling 11 1/2 inches. As I had already cut out all the pieces, I had to make additional trips to the fabric store to purchase additional material to complete the quilt. Please correct the measurements in your diagram and directions for cutting.

    • Hi there! Are you using a 1/4″ seam allowance on all pieces? After the seam allowance on all of the pieces you are describing, the strip should be 10″ finished. A 3″ block would become 2 1/2″ after the 1/4″ seam allowance, and the 5 1/2″ block would become 5″ after the 1/4″ seam allowance. Please email us at fabric@cloud9fabrics.com if you have further questions.

    • Hi Kathleen! We usually leave binding strip width up to the sewist. It’s really up to you how wide you want your binding to be!

  31. I LOVE this pattern, I have made it twice both times using batiks. The first one was mostly purples and the second one was blue batiks. Both were gifts and LOVED.

  34. I love this design. I was hoping it was a queen size.
What are your suggestions for making it for a bigger bed? More strips? Border around the whole quilt? Larger strips?

  35. Is there a way to adjust the size of this quilt to a 36″ x 52′ crib quilt? It’s so lovely, but I can’t find a crib-sized pattern for it. I’d love to make it for my granddaughter who is due in June.

  36. Am needing to make a queen size and a king size quilt. Any suggestions as to how to enlarge this pattern?
I am thinking it wouldn’t be too hard to do. Would take some thought.
    Thanks

  37. Hello Team,
Thank you for the beautiful pattern. I enjoyed sewing it and was surprised how quickly it came together, however, I have a few suggestions. If you are using directional fabric, please take a closer look at the top and bottom rows. The pattern states to cut 5 1/2 X 10 1/2, but if you have directional fabric, you should be cutting 10 1/2 X 5 1/2″. Also label, label, label – the fabric and the pieces cut. It will make it so much easier! Thanks again for the beautiful pattern.

  38. I really enjoy this pattern. I am working on my 2nd one. Both have been wedding gifts for family. I am already dreaming up a 3rd. Is there a place to share our quilts?

    • I like the look of this quilt. I was thinking doing one for a baby, (don’t know the sex) and the shower is coming up in January. Any suggestions on color scheme?

  39. Is there a variation for a smaller size quilt? I love this pattern for my new great grand daughter but 55×63 is pretty big for a baby.
